Cubs Place Closer Craig Kimbrel On Injured List

Craig Kimbrel’s prolonged layoff, long-term viability in 31 years old and last year’s bad performance at the postseason with the Red Sox (5.91 ERA, 1.59 ERA at 10??2/3 innings over nine looks ) were legitimate causes for concern and he hasn’t been consistent this season. He had two outings in July but followed up with eight consecutive scoreless appearances.
While the majority of Kimbrel’s appearances have been clean, he has also given up three earned runs on three distinct occasions, which clarifies his bloated 5.68 ERA in 19 innings over 21 looks this year.
Keeping and control the ball at the park has been problematic because of him. Kimbrel has 11 walks and he has hit two batters in his 19 innings of work, surrendering six home runs (one shy of last season’s career-high seven home runs allowed).
Kimbrel must return to form, When the Cubs need to move far in the postseason. Hopefully, his battles are not indications of a decline.
